革小物の仕立てに欠かせない道具のひとつ、刻みネン(菊寄せネン)をAtelier k.I. オリジナルで生産しました。 財布などの革製品で、ヘリ返しの角の革を薄く漉き、ヒダを寄せて畳んでいく”菊寄せ”と呼ばれる技法があります。 放射状のヒダが菊の花のように見えるため、”菊寄せ”という名前が付いています。 菊寄せを見れば、その職人の技量がわかると言われ、職人技の見せ所でもある技術です。 その”菊寄せ”のための道具が刻みネン(菊寄せネン)です。 腕の良い職人は、道具を使いやすいように自分で加工して使っています。 市販の刻みネンは職人が独自に加工をするのを前提としており、未加工ではつかえないものが一般的です。 削る角度や厚みによって”菊寄せ”の仕上がりに差が生じるため実際に加工するのは難しく、加工してあるものを購入したいという声を多くいただいておりました。 これまで生徒さんには教室の備品を使っていただくなどしていましたが、いざ購入する際あまりおすすめできるものがなかったため、刃物屋さんにお願いして一から製作していただく事になりました。 2024年12月分から形状を変更し安定感のある幅広タイプになっております。 長さについても比較的コンパクトで取り回しのしやすさを重視しています。試行錯誤の末、今のサイズにたどり着きました。 サイズが決定し、重要になってくるのは先端の形状です。 サンプル段階で理想の形に仕上がらず、ある程度の形までは刃物屋さんにこしらえていただき、最後の仕上げの加工に関しては一本ずつ工房にて手作業で行っております。 ネンの両側で2通りの使い方ができるように先端の形状を変えて加工しています。 片方は菊寄せの際、革をつかみやすいように切れない程度にうすく、先に傾斜をつけています。 もう片側は先は尖らせず丸みを持たせ、ラインを引いてアタリを付けたり、側面を革に押し当てて圧着したりする際に使用します。 教室に通っていただいている生徒さんはもちろん、得に遠方で動画を見てくださっている生徒さんに是非、手に取っていただきたい仕上がりとなりました。 工具の加工については講師が指導と確認をしておりますので、是非”菊寄せ”で使っていただきたいです。 ※手作業での製作のためブレが形状や寸法に誤差が出ます。あらかじめご了承ください。 ※革の種類によってはきれやすい可能性があります。少し丸みをつけるなどしてご対応ください。 ※刃先に錆防止の油がついております。拭き取ってからご使用ください。 ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー Kizami-nen produced by Atelier K.I.
